Castle Acre Investigation
26 July 2008
Investigation began: 10pm
Weather: Dry, fine & warm
Investigators: Duggie, Tracey, Benny, Jayne, George, &
Jason
We started the investigation by walking into the castle
building, the largest remaining room, and as soon as we walked into the room we
all felt different. Tracey felt very sickly. We took it in turns to stand in
the doorway to make sure this was the same for everyone. Jayne felt like cobwebs were on her arms and
face in the entrance. The name George
Simmons was given to Tracey. She then
picked up on a negative energy, a male, he had a threatening manner and appeared
to project this towards Duggie. It felt
he wanted us to leave the room, his words being said were “you have 10 seconds
to leave”. At the same time Duggie had an orb behind him on the still photo
taken. When Duggie asked why they had 10
seconds to leave the reply given to Tracey was ‘Wait and find out’. Tracey felt his lip was curled up and that he
was very sure of himself. Duggie was not concerned with these words and it felt
that this person was giving out an idle threat to us. One corner of the room
was` extremely warm and upon taking a reading it was measured at 39 degrees!
Batteries on all the equipment were being drained
continually and many batteries were replaced.
George saw a shadow above us so Duggie and Jason went onto
the next level to investigate, on leaving us and looking down, there was a fast
drop in temperature and a very uneasy feeling was felt by all remaining. The temperature of the investigators had gone
from 17 degrees down to 7 at its lowest. Duggie and Jason felt very relaxed
where they now were and started to make their way back to us. In the mean time Jayne was picking up on a
male energy who had a brown short jacket on, a cap or a hood and a stick. He gave her the information that he had lived
in the village and used his cart to take pigs etc to the castle and other parts. He was quite anxious to get away from the
castle as soon as possible. She asked
why this was and he said he did not like the man that Tracey had picked up on. Jayne felt that the man with the cart
belonged there, was born there and the other man Tracey picked up on didn’t. Jayne
felt that the older gentleman Tracey picked up on felt he was lord of the
manner even though he wasn’t. He didn’t
like the villagers and they didn’t like him. He was a foreigner. After the man went the temperature rose back
up to 16 degrees again. The date being
given at this point was 1512. The
atmosphere in this room felt very heavy.
Jayne picked up on a young girl on a horse who was wearing a
yellow dress. She felt that it was the 18th century. The girl was laughing and very happy. A black
dog was with her and often rode along this path to church. She was not held to
the castle grounds. Jayne was given her name as Charlotte Hughes and she was 23
years old. She died somewhere else. Jayne didn’t think she knew she’d passed
over.
Charlotte
said, ‘its always summertime.’
We left the room and turned right and headed to an outer
small room, Tracey had a neck ache upon entering the room. Duggie picked up on
a solider who seemed to be pacing back and forwards on an upper floor in this
room. He was wearing leather armour with
leather strapping, but holding no weapon. Tracey got the words ‘Not sure what
to do’. George felt that he had been entrusted with a document of some kind or
something of great value and that he had to get it out at any cost. He seemed
to be waiting as though expecting someone to come. The smell of leather seemed strong in this
room and noticed by more than one of us.
His hands were restless. Duggie felt cold in this room, but he felt hot
outside of it. A shadow was seen going across the window several times by
several members on the floor above that room. George had a feeling of being watched.
We now made our way into the moat which would take us
clockwise and apart from the odd rabbit moving, everything was quiet and
nothing was picked up. At this point we
were at the right side end of the castle.
We continued round and almost reached the place where we would walk out
when Duggie suddenly leaped backwards saying “what ever was that?”. Something had brushed passed him which was
the size of the dog. Almost seconds
after he had done this Jason, who was in front of him, had also jumped
backwards as he too had been touched by something brushing pass his leg and was
trying to understand what had happened.
We had been walking in a line and Tracey had followed Duggie She had watched both the men react but did
not know what had happened as no noise had been heard or picked up, so we
discounted it being an animal such as a deer or a dog. We made our way up the slope and out of the
moat, standing quietly at the top. A
bizarre rustling could be heard in the long grass, like something was making
its way closer to us but it did not sound small and yet we could see nothing??
Whilst stopping Duggie picked up on the animal again which appeared to change
into the form of a man.
When we started to walk again George took and saw (through
the camera) a photo of orbs and a shadow on the bridge. Duggie, George, Jason & Benny walked onto
the bridge. George then felt like his
energy was being drained out of him and he felt really weak. Duggie heard drums in the background whilst
on the bridge. George started to get a
really bad headache.
We started to walk towards the old foot path and Duggie felt that there was lots of
soliders marching. They had shields and
spears and were chanting. The shield was round at the top and pointed at the
bottom like an upside down teardrop.
Their helmets were pointed at the top (like a dome shape with a point)
and they had a metal strip down the front of their noses. The front of the shields were red and there
was something in black on them. Their
legs were bare apart from their boots.
Their armour was scalemail.
We then walked to an old road, whilst there Duggie picked up
on a chariot four horses wide, travelling at great speed along it. He kept
being given the word Boudica. He felt that it wasn’t Queen Boudica but
something to do with her.
We walked back to the castle and made our way to the moat
again, where the earlier incident had taken place. Duggie and Benny went back
into the moat whilst the others watched them from the footbridge. Benny was
being given the word whispers and only a moment later Duggie said to Benny “I can hear whispers”.
No sooner had they go into the moat and walked down a short
way, the temperature on the bridge dropped dramatically. A very uncomfortable and vulnerable feeling
was being felt by the remaining investigators and yet nothing came of this.
As this was now 12am we decided to finish the investigation.
History
Castle Acre Castle
The castle mound is an important alignment point of ley
lines. The castle also forms the bottom point of a diamond, whose other points
are the tumuli of Rudham and Massingham Commons and Weasenham Plantation.
Many old ways, cart and drovers tracks and ley lines bisect
the castle mound including Peddars Way, the Puddingstone Track, the Nar Valley
Way and some believe the Icknield Way. (from East Anglia, Walking the Ley Lines
and Ancient Tracks; Toulson, Shirley; Wildwood House ltd, 1979)
William De Warenne began the construction of a Norman
country house about 1070; this was added to and improved over the years
becoming the castle of which we can still see the ruins today. William’s wife Gundrada actually died at
Castle Acre in childbirth in 1085. After
William’s death his son William further developed the castle. There was already an important dwelling on
the site when William began his construction and there is evidence that site
was used extensively from the Bronze Age onwards.
The track that we walked part way down where Duggie sensed
the Iceni chariot was an old drovers road from ancient times and became part of
Peddar’s Way. The Iceni are believed to
have used this track, as well as the Romans.
